Jarrad Fong commenced his martial arts training in 1990 at age 8 under the guidance of Master Chris Austin. He achieved the rank of Cho Dan in 1997 (1st Dan, Bon #36451) and continued under his son Master Michael Austin to grade to 3rd Dan in 2016. He is currently undertaking his 4th Dan Masters grading , a four-year assessment that culminates in a week-long grading in Korea.
Throughout his 30years of training he has connected with both national and international practitioners of the Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan family. This commenced in 1998 as one of the first Australian youth leader designees at the South East Asia Leadership seminar in Malaysia (SEALS) and continued with Australian SEALS seminars in 2002, 2010 and 2016. He has trained internationally in Hollywood, San Diego, World Moo Duk Kwan headquarters in New Jersey in 2018, and the 2019 Korean Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa (master level grading) .
Martial arts have been an integral part of his life, and has continued through to his children including his son Lucas who is currently undertaking 1st Dan grading. He has a passion for passing on his knowledge to ensure the lineage of the Moo Duk Kwan values are upheld and continued for the generations beyond. He has instructed at Austin Martial Arts since 1998 and strives to adjust lesson content to meet the needs and goals of his students, ensuring that regardless of age, gender or fitness, the only differentiation between students is their willingness to learn.
